Product Review: Ergotron Sit-Stand Desk

The Ergatron WorkFit-TL workstation is quick to install, can support single or dual monitors and a laptop stand and is very study.

Sitting too long has been dubbed the “new smoking”, but it was a bulged disc in my back (and the need to avoid sitting down) which motivated me to invest in a sit/stand desk.

As you may know, we have just renovated the Digit IT office. Given this we weren’t excited about replacing new desks with electronic sit/stand desks, so Ben did his research and has sourced me the best alternative – an Ergotron WorkFit-TL workstation.

Available from $549, the sturdy device is IT deployment friendly and quickly converts a tabletop into a sit-stand workstation.

Design

As you can see in the images below, the workstation can be set up with one or two monitors or a monitor and a laptop, with single and dual monitor kits optional.
You lift the levers of each side of the device to lift the workstation up and down to your preferred height.
I’ve found it super easy to lift and adjust.

WorkFit-TL workstation

  • Colour Options: Black or White

  • Worksurface Dimensions: 95 x 58.3cm

  • Keyboard Dimensions: 69 x 28cm

  • Lift: 38cm

  • RRP Price: $549-$741 + GST (excludes installation and accessories)

  • Digit IT March Special: $540 + GST

Pros

  • Quick to install

  • Changes to different heights easily

  • Can support single or dual monitors and a laptop stand

  • Space saving – the worksurface always stays within the footprint of your desktop

  • Really stable – you can lean on the workstation while working – it’s sturdy!

Cons

  • The sit/stand desks are designed for just that – alternating between sitting and standing. But, at the moment, I am trying to just stand and feel much less productive. However, when my back settles down, I intend to continue using the device following the Ergotron recommendation to alternate between sitting and standing every 30 minutes. I also feel some of my work is more suited to sitting, rather than standing:

    • Standing – checking emails, online meetings, online orders, bookwork, proofreading work

    • Sitting – communication consulting work – writing reports, documents, anything that requires more mental concentration.

  • Aesthetically, the workstation is available in black or white. And, as per the images above, the white looks much better on a modern desk and the black, in my opinion, would look better on a wooden desk.
