Need a New Laptop or PC? Buy Now — Before Prices Rise (Again)

If your laptop or desktop PC is slow, unreliable, or overdue for replacement, now is the time to act.

Across Australia, laptop and PC prices have already increased — and further rises are expected. This isn’t about inflation or new features. It’s being driven by a global storage and memory shortage, with Australia feeling the impact earlier than many markets.

If you wait, you’re likely to:

  • Pay more for the same device

  • Settle for lower specs

  • Face limited model choice or longer lead times

What’s causing laptop and PC price rises?

The short version: there isn’t enough memory and storage to go around.

Global manufacturers are prioritizing long-term, high-volume enterprise and AI datacenter contracts. That leaves less supply for business grade laptops and desktop PCs — particularly the reliable midrange models many Australian businesses depend on.

When supply tightens, prices rise.

And that’s already happening.

Laptop and PC price rises we're seeing in Australia

We began seeing noticeable laptop and PC price increases from late 2025 (October–November), with sharper rises flowing through in early 2026. Further increases are expected as higher cost stock replaces existing inventory.

This isn’t theoretical. Australian distributors and retailers are reporting increases, including:

  • 4TB SSDs that sold for around $500 last year now retailing for $1,100+

  • 16GB RAM modules that once cost $60 now selling for $200–$300

Major vendors — including Lenovo, HP, Dell and ASUS — have implemented around 15% price increases on many business models since late 2025, largely to offset rising component costs. Apple has also adjusted Australian pricing and configurations as memory costs increase.

As existing stock sells through, replacement stock is landing at higher cost prices — and those increases flow directly into laptops and PCs.

Why waiting is risky

Many businesses expect prices to stabilize — or hope EOFY sales will soften the impact.

Right now, we’re seeing the opposite.

Across the industry:

  • Prices continue to rise through 2026

  • Quote validity periods are shortening — sometimes days, not weeks

  • Choice is narrowing for business grade laptops and desktop PCs

What this means for your business

If your team relies on laptops or PCs to work productively and securely:

  • Replacing devices later is likely to cost more

  • Urgent purchases limit your options

  • Budgets set last year may no longer hold
